Tandem win for Apartment Sector Leading Light

Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) CEO Anna Cronin and Bronwyn Weir, co-author of the Building Confidence Report, have been honored with the Jeff Robinson Apartment Sector Leading Light award at the Victorian Apartment Awards for Excellence, recognizing their outstanding consumer advocacy.

In 2024, Bronwyn conducted pivotal research revealing the BPC (formerly VBA) had inadequately protected consumers against building defects.

This led to the enactment of the Buyer Protection Bill in 2025, which introduced crucial safeguards for apartment buyers, including a 2% developer bond.

Samantha Reece, CEO of AAA, affirmed that these two trailblazers have transformed the apartment sector for the better.

"Anna took a bold step by publicly exposing the VBA's shortcomings as CEO, risking much because she was committed to doing what was right," Samantha stated.

"Anna showed a rare conviction in government circles. Despite facing intense backlash from some industry members, her determination only grew stronger. She exemplified immense courage and leadership."

"Bronwyn has been a steadfast advocate for change over six years, and thanks to these two leaders, Victoria now has its first consumer protection laws in 26 years."

Congratulations to both recipients!
