BVN scoops multiple wins

BVN Architecture has achieved significant recognition at the NSW Apartment Awards for Excellence, collaborating with clients JQZ, JDH Capital, and Greenland Group.

The Sirius redevelopment received a special commendation for innovation and technology before securing the prestigious luxury category award.

Rather than demolishing the building, BVN focused on enhancing the existing structure, emphasizing retention, restoration, and reimagining.

The project has not only resulted in one of the most premium apartment developments in The Rocks but has also reconnected the area from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the foreshore.

The Greenland Centre exemplifies adaptive reuse, transforming an obsolete office tower into a 69-story apartment building with 490 residential units and a 2000 sqm creative hub.

Addressing high wind challenges, the development introduced the Sydney Verandah—a balcony with 25% open space around a frameless glazed screen. This feature, designed through close collaboration between architects and engineers, uses a single angled glass plate suspended from above and supported at floor level, allowing fresh air and natural light while providing protection from the elements.

This design functions as a windshield, managing wind pressure and enabling natural ventilation in the apartments without discomfort.

Unlike traditional balconies, this design eliminates the need for a balustrade that typically obstructs views when seated. This innovation prompted the City of Sydney to revise its planning controls to encourage similar balcony designs in future developments.

Finally, VIVACITY has transformed a former light industrial warehouse and car park into a dynamic, 2.7-hectare urban precinct in the heart of Olympic Park. Delivering 1,145 contemporary apartments, a vibrant commercial hub, and a future-focused primary school, the project exemplifies bold innovation and community-centric design. Featuring a striking mix of architectural heights, activated public spaces, and seamless integration with public transport, the precinct not only enhances livability but redefines urban regeneration with sophistication, energy, and enduring visual appeal.
