Starcorp cuts costs, wins friends

Starcorp Energy has won unusually positive endorsements from owners' corporations and building managers across Queensland.

 

It manages embedded networks in apartment buildings, conducts energy audits and manages EV charging stations and network billing of individual users.

 

Against a background of changing embedded network rules and an ongoing review by the Australian Energy Regulator, Starcorp Energy has impressed with its support, as a licensed company, of building managers and owners' corporations in buildings with embedded networks or simply looking for a better energy deal for their residents.

 

A case in point is the 108 Kangaroo Point apartment, a 30-year-old building.

Building manager Megan Taifalos says it installed an embedded network 10 years ago but changes to legislation meant the network needed to be managed by a licensed company.

 

“Starcorp is great,” Taifalos says. “(Starcorp’s) Perry is a good communicator and you can ring and talk to him if you have an issue. The billing cycle is consistent and accurate based on Starcorp’s averaging of use (over the quarter). The team comes out each quarter because we have an old system that needs to be read manually. (Starcorp is a) great operator and approachable.”

 

At a 101 Gold Coast apartment (also 35-year-old building), former chairman Dennis Rourke says the owners’ corporation had been seeking better energy pricing and Starcorp was “as close to perfect as you could get”. As well as coming up with a better price, it had been reliable, not made mistakes and been easy to contact.

 

“Anything we were unsure about was quickly resolved,” Bourke says. “Starcorp saved us more than $100,000 in energy costs in one year.”

 

He would recommend Starcorp, he says, because of their service, reliability and competitive pricing.

 

In Keysborough, owners’ corporation manager Elena Adriani says after the building owner installed an embedded network, an “energy broker found a brilliant deal with Starcorp”, which then took care of billing and “is saving the owners more than 50 per cent a month”. As an added bonus, when there were issues with residents not paying, Starcorp managed the process of seeking payment and collecting those debts.

 

“I would absolutely (recommend) them,” Adriani says. “They are professional, give constant updates, Perry explains the system and the benefits and has saved the owners’ corporation a lot of money. Brilliant.”
